This recipe gives the traditionally strong and, you could say, serious drink an ever-so-slightly fruity flair. Delish.
Makes 2
- 4 ounces bourbon or rye whiskey
- 1 ounce cherry or cranberry liqueur (see note)
- 1/4 to 1/2 ounce Angostura bitters
- Ice
- 2 wide strips of orange zest (use a vegetable peeler)
- 2 maraschino cherries
Combine bourbon, liqueur, and bitters. Divide mixture evenly among 2 tumblers filled with ice. Garnish with orange zest and cherries and serve.
NOTE I highly recommend liqueurs from Clear Creek Distillery—they're jam-packed with wonderfully true fruit flavors while not cloyingly sweet.
