Now that I’ve convinced you not to serve wine and chocolate on Valentine’s Day, let me tell what would be ideal.
Ice cream.
Yep, that’s what I said. Ice cream. Yes, it’s my favorite food. And yes, that also makes it my favorite dessert. But it’s also the perfect dessert.
Let me explain.
I love cakes and pies and tarts and tortes and all manner of sweet eats. Absolutely and undoubtedly. But the truth is that at the end of a meal, I don’t want any of those things. At the end of a meal, I want something light and refreshing and simple and cold and sweet. I want ice cream, and I bet you do, too.
Check it out. The next time you’re at the end of a meal, especially a particularly good or memorable one, ask yourself not which dessert you like best, but what would really taste and feel good to you. Might it be ice cream?
But ice cream is so simple and plain, you say.
I say that’s one of the reasons it’s perfect.
But, you say, you’re throwing a dinner party, a Valentine’s Day soiree, and you’re looking for something a little more, um, seductive than a plain ol’ scoop of ice cream.
Then, I say, serve Orange Creamsicle Floats with Sparkling Wine.
Same light, refreshing, cold, and sweet ice cream idea, just dressed up a bit.
Happy Valentine’s Day.
