Familiar enough to satisfy purists but with enough flair to feel creative and interesting, this easy-to-make cranberry sauce is great alongside all kinds of meats—not just the Thanksgiving turkey. It’s also delicious as a sandwich spread and stirred into yogurt.

Makes about 3 cups
- One 12-ounce bag fresh cranberries
- 1 apple, cored and cut into 1/2-inch dice
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/8 teaspoon coarse kosher salt
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the cranberries, apple, sugar, water, cinnamon, cloves, and salt and bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Reduce to a simmer and cook, stirring occasionally, until most of the cranberries have burst and the apples are tender, about 10 minutes. Cool, cover, and chill before serving.
