So I like to talk about eating in season. How eating what’s in season helps guarantee your food will be its most flavorful. Which means your meals will be more satisfying, and they’ll take less effort. Because if you start with good ingredients, you don’t have to do much to make something great.

But there’s another reason to eat in season.

It helps you be present to the passage of time, to the miracle of things growing, ripening, and waning, and to the preciousness of each of those spaces.

In other words, relishing what’s in season helps you relish, well, life.

Pretty cool, huh? One little trip to the farmers market and you get all that.

Right now, the seasons have asparagus in the rearview mirror and melons slightly off in the distance. But berries, stone fruit, and tomatoes—they are here.

So savor a tomato-mozzarella salad. Appreciate peaches in your morning cereal. Revel in Raspberry Vanilla Bean Scones.

Because those things will taste good, yes. But also because you’ll be paying attention to the world around you, and experiencing it as something worth savoring.

Yum.

Thanks for saying so, Sabrina–and I’m with you, there’s nothing like scones and coffee. I particularly like the combo when I’m starting off on a road trip :) Hope you’re having a delicious holiday!
